Performed and managed product design in four hardware start-ups, founded and served as principal of two. Hands-on manager qualified to provide advice, guidance and assistance in the product design and development area to startups dealing with hardware products.

• secure microcell radio communication (1997)
• scrolling for video display adapter
• ring style control device (1998)
• cursor motion control software (1990)
• wearable computer with CD-ROM (1995, 1998)

Led the engineering effort at Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s research and development company (closed April 2000).

• Established, planned and led the prototype development group
• Founding chair of Intellectual Property Committee
• Led brainstorming sessions and group concept discussions
• Performed international technology transfer
• Performed engineering liason to spinoff company (sold to Lego)

Designs include:

• Realtime digital video edge-detection processor
• “pocket watch” color LCD video monitor prototype
• Portable 8-channel 16-bit data logger with GSR and PPG input modules
• Low-cost breath-sensitive detection matrix (SigGraph 1998)

Founder & President

Golemics, Inc. Berkeley CA 1979 – 1992

Established and managed a six-person contract electronic design firm. Assembled and led technical teams as required to carry out 39 jobs. Managed $800,000 contract to design compatible prototype PC. 1983 – 1984.

• Defined PC video display architecture with first personal computer text display
• Designed first integrated personal computer
• Fully PC-compatible computer system including LCD display adapter and ROM-BIOS (Oki R-10)
• Workstation on ISA board with video and laser engine output (prototype)

Osborne Computer Corporation Hayward CA 1981 - 1983

Functioned as chief engineer for one of the fastest-growing computer companies of its time.

• Designed the initial product (Osborne-1),
• supported the product design as it moved into manufacture
• worked to expand the product line through externally-designed upgrades
• Performed architectural design and prototyping of the follow-on product (Osborne Executive)
• brought a third-party PC-compatible design in-house.
• Handled negotiations with several Japanese companies in developing a laptop design.

Prior to graduation worked for four years as a Junior Engineer at Ampex Inc. Special Products Division, Redwood City CA.
